Al Ahly Sabbour Developments was set up in Egypt in 1994 by Eng. Ahmed Sabbour, as a joint-stock company formed in alliance with the National Bank of Egypt. Its roots are older: in 1988 Eng. Hussein Sabbour founded Sabbour Engineering Consulting, the family's engineering practice, and the development arm grew out of it.

By the company's own count it has built 65 projects across Egypt, 20,893 units in all, of which 10,308 have been handed over, and it holds a land bank of about 4,000 feddans there. Around 40,000 people live in or own homes in its communities. Outside Egypt it lists a presence in the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Spain, Cyprus and Greece.

In Oman the company trades as Al Ahly for Real Estate Sabbour LLC, with an office in Al Azaiba, Muscat. Its Omani project is Wadi Zaha in Sultan Haitham City, sold freehold, with buyers' payments going into an escrow account at Sohar Islamic. Keep the scale of the numbers above in proportion: they describe the group's record at home in Egypt. In Oman the record starts with Wadi Zaha, which is still being built.
